In contrast to the rather uninspiring situation on the Spanish property market, Mallorca remains a favourite and very sort after locality.
Recently, a quick recovery has become apparent and Mallorca is again becoming one of the most attractive and dynamic localities in Spain. The number of tourists has risen over the past few months to a year-on-year increase of 6 % - no surprise, when you realise that Mallorca offers up to 300 days of sun per year, 23 golf courses, 25 marinas and beautiful scenery and clean sea.
The increasing tourist interest in Mallorca has begun to be reflected in growth in the area of real estate. Many tourists fall in love with the island so much, that they begin looking for a way of settling down here for longer periods. These are not only tourists from the EU, but interest from Russia and the Far East is also on the rise. At present, there are more than 54,000 residents from EU countries and hundreds of thousands more who own a recreational property.
The great interest in properties, however, leads to a considerable rise in prices, the average price of properties on Mallorca being about double that of properties on the Costa del Sol or the Costa Brava. A higher price is often a reflection of the exceptional quality of a property or its infrastructure. In these areas, other localities will find it exceptionally hard to compete with Mallorca.
